SIKESTON - T.E. Stallings, for the past five years principal of the local high school, was named superintendent of schools at a meeting of the school board late Thursday to replace R.A. Harper, who resigned June 30 to take a new position in Maryville, Tenn.
MALDEN - Plans are complete for the big annual 4th of July celebration to be held at the Malden Air Base Saturday starting at 2 p.m. An antique car show and races and parachute jump throughout the day by the Skydivers will highlight events.

EAST PRAIRIE - An acting city clerk was appointed during a brief meeting of the City Council Thursday evening, annual liquor licenses were approved and an executive session followed the regular meeting. Dorsie Bradley, who serves as secretary for the Municipal Court, was appointed acting city clerk until the July 24 meeting of the council.
