SIKESTON - Harry C. Blanton, U.S. District Attorney of St. Louis, will be the principal speaker at the Sikeston American Legion Post's Memorial Day program.

MOREHOUSE - A special meeting of the Morehouse Board of Alderman has been called for 5 p.m. Monday at the city hall to deal with an ongoing controversy between city officials and the fuel alcohol plant operated by Southeast Missouri Distilleries.

EAST PRAIRIE - The history of her family and hometown is very important to LaWanda Douglas. In the future, it will be noted that she made history - the first woman elected to the City Council and the first woman elected mayor. In recognition of her services, a testimonial dinner is set for May 15


SIKESTON - The telltale signs of approaching summer are evident - little league practice, warm weather and the bites of pesky mosquitoes. Just as this annual ritual is being played out, so is the response from the City of Sikeston - extermination. "We've declared war as of today," stated Vance Raines, street division crew leader." A wet winter and equally wet spring have combined to begin anti-mosquito efforts early.
