SIKESTON - Errors hurt two area teams, Scott Central and Matthews, in district play of the state baseball playoffs. Scott Central dropped a decision to Cape Girardeau, 5-1; and Hayti blanked Matthews, 2-0.
NEW MADRID - A committee was named to revise the city's merchant license fee and an assistant city marshal was appointed by the City Council during its Monday evening meeting. Willis "Bo" Wingo was appointed to assist Police Chief Jim Helms at Helms' request. Mayor Jim Cravens spoke with the council about revisions in the merchant license fee.

SIKESTON - By unanimous decision the City Council approved a BMX track agreement with the Optimist Club and authorized the mayor to execute the agreement.
SIKESTON - The city moved a step closer to increasing the parking space in the downtown area while alleviating nervous drivers from the trouble of having to parallel park. Also during the Wednesday meeting, the council members approved a plan for reconstruction of Linn Street.
