SIKESTON - Announcements have been received here of the birth of a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Hershel J. Cook of Memphis. Mrs. Cook was formerly Miss Zela McCarty of Sikeston.

NEW MADRID - The New Madrid plan for harbor facilities being considered by the U.S. Engineers of the Memphis District has been authorized to make a detailed survey of the proposal.


NEW MADRID - The Rev. and Mrs. R.J. Cooper of New Madrid Missionary Baptist Church held open house Sunday, giving every member of the church a chance to visit in the pastor's home and fellowship.

MINER - In a long and apparent controversial reorganization meeting Thursday night, the Miner Board of Aldermen made several appointments, rehired an officer fired earlier and discussed several issues.

SIKESTON - Sikeston Public Schools, in cooperation with the Sikeston Health Care Center, recently conducted a certified nurse aide course. Participating were Instructor Dora Estes RN, Edgar Harris, Mary Murray, Gayla Loomis, Nicole Nabors, examiner Diana Mercer RN, Melissa Bedwell, Barbara Amick, Angie Paarman, Dorothy Norris.


LILBOURN - Derek Wayne Brown celebrated his first birthday March 20 with a party given by his parents, Derek and Robyn Brown at their home.


SIKESTON - Chantal Sparks showed that the delay in the start of Sikeston's track season hasn't affected her distance ability. After winning the Jackson Invitational, 1,600-meter run easily, only to be disqualified for false start, Sparks came back to help the 1,600 relay team break the SHS record with a first-place time of 4:26.27.
