Gwen Shy

SIKESTON - Gwendolyn Louise "Gwen" Shy, 80, died at 5:15 p.m. April 23, 2003, at her home.

Born Nov. 16, 1922, in Ristine, daughter of the late Gordon Samuel and Helen Gould Cruchon Shy Sr., she was an office manager and accountant for the Scott County Milling Company for more than 40 years before retiring. A member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, she was a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella and Legion of Mary.

Survivors include: one brother, Harold Shy of Warrensburg; one sister, Helen Grady of Sikeston; and 23 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Gordon S. "Doc" Shy Jr., David Shy, Richard Shy and Lloyd Shy; and two nephews.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where a prayer service is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Stephen Schneider, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at New Madrid.
