DEXTER - Helen Louise Horton, 77, died Oct. 14, 2003, at her daughter's home in Poplar Bluff.

Born Oct. 9, 1926, at Clay Center, Kan., daughter of the late Walter William and Mary Mayse White, she was of the Methodist belief. She was a former Ombudsman at Vintage Villa Nursing Center and Central Gardens Residential Care Center in Dexter.

On March 31, 1944, in Edinburg, Texas, she married John Irvin Horton who preceded her in death on Dec. 28, 1987.

One son, John "Buddy" Horton, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include: three sons, Virgil L. Horton of Seattle, Wash., Warren A. Horton of Winterville, N.C., and Dale Horton of Columbia; one daughter, Elizabeth Ann Garner of Poplar Bluff; and 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter where services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday with Johnny Walters officiating.

Burial will follow in the Dexter Cemetery.
