SIKESTON -- Officers with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety are investigating the theft of morphine from the South Scott County Ambulance District.

On April 26, during a routine inventory check, two supervisors with the South Scott County Ambulance District discovered six ampules of morphine missing and another eight morphine ampules were tampered with. In those eight instances of tampering, morphine was extracted from their container and another substance was put in its place with the tops glued back together.

This prompted an investigation by DPS. There were no signs of forced entry in the building or where the ampules were held.

DPS is currently conducting interviews with people who had access to the narcotics and the investigation is ongoing.

Officers are asking anyone who has information to contact Sikeston DPS at 471-1500. Communications can be confidential.
