SIKESTON - Larry Joe Lewis, 70, died at 6 a.m. Sept. 9, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. Born Aug. 8, 1937, south of Sikeston, to the late Joseph E. and Bessie Anderson Lewis, he was a 1957 graduate of Matthews High School. He farmed until 1979 then began working for the Missouri Department of Transportation until his retirement in August 2000. ...

SIKESTON - Larry Joe Lewis, 70, died at 6 a.m. Sept. 9, 2007, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born Aug. 8, 1937, south of Sikeston, to the late Joseph E. and Bessie Anderson Lewis, he was a 1957 graduate of Matthews High School. He farmed until 1979 then began working for the Missouri Department of Transportation until his retirement in August 2000. He was discharged from the Missouri National Guard in January 1993 after serving for 20 years and was a member of the First Christian Church in Sikeston.

Survivors include: two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita and Jerry Laseter of Sikeston and Judith and James Cairns of Raymond, Neb.; four nieces and nephews, Jerry Laseter, Christina Brake and Jo and John David Moore; and three grandnieces and nephews, Scott Lambert, Layla Laseter and Macy Moore.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Joe Lewis.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ponder Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Mary McCord officiating assisted by the Rev. Ed Pangburn.

Pallbearers will be: John David Moore, Jerry Laseter II, Dale Graham, Jim Elliott, Donnie Noles and Joe Karnes.

Honorary pallbearer will be Byron Caldwell.
