CARUTHERSVILLE -- A South Pemiscot School District teacher's aide is facing felony charges alleging sexual acts with a student.
Micheal Willard Smith, 41, of rural Steele is charged with two counts of statutory sodomy and one count of deviate sexual assault. All three charges are class C felonies.
The investigation began Thursday morning after authorities learned a student at the South Pemiscot School District revealed information concerning a teachers aide being sexually active with some of the students who attend South Pemiscot schools, according to a press release from Pemiscot County Sheriff Tommy Greenwell.
Officials declined to offer any information on the victims other than to note they were teenagers.
During the investigation it was determined that these acts were not being performed on a school campus but allegedly at the suspect's residence in the Braggadocio area.
An interview with a victim revealed that sexual acts were performed on the student by the teachers aide while at the residence and that students were at times compensated for those acts, according to the sheriff's press release.
Smith is scheduled to appear before Judge Byron Luber at 10 a.m. Monday for arraignment in Division Two court.
The investigation is continuing, and more charges are expected to be filed.
