MORLEY - John Robert Lee Jr. (J.R.), 93, died July 2, 2005, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born Feb. 3, 1912, in Morley, son of the late John Robert and Tillie Deiters Lee Sr., he lived his entire life in Morley. A member of the Morley Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, he served as mayor of Morley for several years, in addition to being a member of Scott County Central School School Board and a board member of the Baptist Home in Ironton. He was involved in farming, the Vanduser Cotton Gin in Vanduser, the Baseline Cotton Gin in Morley, J.R.'s Salad Bowl Restaurant in Walnut Ridge, Ark., and the grain elevator in Cape Girardeau before retiring. He was also an avid supporter of the Scott County Braves and Bravettes basketball teams.
On Nov. 28, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, he married Olivia Gennell Huffstutter, who survives of the home in Morley.
Other survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, John R. and Caroline Lee III of Edmond, Okla., and Terry G. and Mary Beth Lee of Barnes Ridge; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Joe Godwin of Morley; six grandchildren, Chris and Katie Lee of Edmond, Tracy Cookson of Sikeston, Marty Lee of Paducah, Ky., Gennell Casey and Cameron Godwin of Morley; and four great-
grandchildren, Jackson Casey and Hannah Casey of Morley and Hallie Kimball and Reece Cookson of Sikeston.
Three brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Thursday until time of services at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Morley. The Rev. Rodney Davis, pastor, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Old Morley Cemetery.
