Paul L. Freed

SIKESTON - Paul L. Freed, 87, died at 2:10 a.m. Jan. 14, 2006, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Feb. 15, 1918, in Hagarville, Ark., to the late Arch Monroe and Nettie Lou Stone Freed, he served in the United States Army during World War II, in the 6th Infantry Division, 63rd Regiment, Company E. He was wounded in action in Dutch-New Guinea, received the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was of the Methodist faith and worked as a mechanic for 32 years for Sikeston Motor Company.

On Oct. 1, 1946, in Charleston, he married Mary Ranzie Manning, who survives of the home in Sikeston.

Other survivors include: four sons and three daughters-in-law, Everett and Rose Manning of Carmel, Ind., Richard and Norma Freed of Scott City, Donnie Freed of Sikeston and Michael and Susan Freed of Sikeston; three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Melvin Guinn of East Prairie, Gail and Floyd Presley of Sikeston and Kathy and Bobby Himes of Sikeston; two brothers, Beck Freed of LaFollet, Tenn., and Lonnie Freed of Scott City; four sisters, Elsie Lewis of Homestead, Fla., Gladys Duke of Big Sandy, Texas, Louise Briggs of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Billie Jean Walters of Flint, Mich.; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Travis Dale Freed, and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston with the Rev. Bob McNabb, a retired Methodist minister, officiating.
