NEW MADRID -- Louis Albert "L.A." Johnson, 85, died Dec. 25, 2007, at the Golden Living Center.
Born Jan. 14, 1922, in New Madrid, to the late Louis and Tudie Mabley Johnson, he was a member of the VFW Post 7183 of Lilbourn.
He married Laura Lee Crockett who preceded him in death on Nov. 7, 1999.
One daughter, Shelia Smith; and two sons also preceded him in death.
Survivors include: four sons and two daughters-in-law, Keith Starks of East St. Louis, Ill., Nehemiah and Patricia Ann Leach and Benjamin and Ida Syas of New Madrid and James Crockett of St. Louis; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Veorla and Robert Buchanan Jr. of Kalamazoo, Mich., Louise Roland of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mary Yeldell of the state of Texas, Frances Thomas of St. Louis, Juanita and Gus Wright Jr. and Daisy Crockett of St. Louis, and Alecia and Nathaniel Malone of New Madrid; one sister, Bertha Johnson of East St. Louis; a special grandson he helped raise, Anthony Leach of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and 27 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. L.L. Williams will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Sandhill Cemetery in New Madrid. Military services will be provided by the American Legion Post 595 and Honor Guard.
