HOWARDVILLE - Simon Wofford, 82, died Oct. 30, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Sept. 28, 1925, in Woodland, Miss., son of the late Simon and Fannie Wright Wofford, he was a U.S. Marine veteran serving during World War II and a member of the Holy Temple Church of God in Christ at Howardville.
On Feb. 8, 1947, in New Madrid, he married Pecola Lee, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: 19 children, Alberta Farr of Kennett, Simon Wofford IV of Parma, Alice Cornley and Jann Wofford of Howardville; Mary Wofford of Huntsville, Ala., Aaron Wofford of Madison, Ill., Larry Wofford of Lilbourn, Rose Mary Bailey and Janice White of Minneapolis, Norma Amos of Menomonie, Wis., Robert Wayne Wofford of Independence, Ruth Ann Thompson of St. Louis, Anthony Wofford of Tacoma, Wash., Samue Wofford of Auburn, Wash., Sandra Devine of Brandon, Miss., Vanessa Strong of Jacksonville, Fla., Helen Thomas of Sikeston, Emory Wofford of Osceola, Wis. and LaShone Wofford of Clarksville, Tenn; two brothers, Johnny Robinson and Dean Robinson of St. Louis; and 64 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, two brothers and one sister.
Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Friday at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Howardville Friendship Church of God in Christ with the Rev. Marvell Cranford officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery in New Madrid.
