SIKESTON - The Bank of Sikeston announced today the appointment of Pat Lea as vice president. Lea will assume the duties with the bank Aug. 1. He has had banking experience in the organization of the Arkansas Valley Bank in Dardanelle, Ark., where he served as executive vice president since 1960 and with First State Bank in Conway, Ark., and First National Bank in Jonesboro, Ark.

SIKESTON - What's the Fourth of July without fireworks? Fortunately, Sikeston area residents didn't have to find out due to the fireworks display at the Kingsway Mall Thursday evening. A 30-minute display of color and brilliance filled the sky and was seen from miles around. Approximately 5,000 persons attended the holiday event.

NEW MADRID - A tremendous crowd lined the levee Thursday evening to watch the arrival of the Delta Queen and the Mississippi Queen at New Madrid. The passengers and crew disembarked sharing buttons, booklets and hats with the crowd, who offered applause to the calliope music on the Delta Queen.

SIKESTON - The Sikeston Elks Lodge hosted their annual fishing derby at the Sikeston Sports Complex with over 130 children participating. That evening the Elks hosted a 30-minute fireworks display, one of the largest in the area, to mark the Fourth of July.

EAST PRAIRIE - The East Prairie Nursing and Rehabilitation Center's resident council raised $325 through a phone drive plus donations from residents, their families and employees, according to Administrator Don Chance. The money was donated to the Chamber of Commerce for the Fourth of July fireworks display.
