SIKESTON - Amos Davis, who operates a small lunch stand on Center Street was attacked. He is in satisfactory condition.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston General Hospital is to remain in operation and will not close temporarily for a transfer from the city to physicians of the area for the operation of the emergency hospital.

SIKESTON - Firemen battled a blaze following an explosion Sunday morning at the Scott County Milling Co. The blaze was concentrated in the center of the loading area for box cars.


CHARLESTON - The first Chamber Dance group will appear in the Charleston High School Auditorium. This will be the first Delta Community Concert of the season.

SIKESTON - The Daily Standard you hold in your hand today is slightly different from others. For today the red color used in the newspaper is derived from one of the Bootheel's cash crops - soybeans. "I'm excited about soybean oil-based ink," said Don Alexander, publisher.

SIKESTON - The message from local stock brokers in response to Monday's 554-point Dow Jones drop is first of all "don't panic," and secondly, "now is a good time to buy."


SIKESTON - Ron Steinmetz, executive director of the Bootheel Counseling Services, straightened his new office Monday afternoon. The three Bootheel Counseling Services offices that were operating throughout Sikeston are now located in one building. The new offices for Bootheel Counseling Services are located at 760 Plantation Blvd.


SIKESTON - In an unmistakable voice he said, "Follow the yellow brick road," and the clock turned back in time. Mickey Carroll, who offered the famous directions to Dorothy, brought the magic of Oz to Sikeston on Monday. In the lobby of the Mercantile Bank, the most famous Munchkin of them all, held court for fans of all ages amid bank employees dressed for the occasion.
