CARUTHERSVILLE - A 28-year old Caruthersville man is in custody on charges of child molestation and statutory rape. At 3:28 p.m. Friday, Caruthersville Police officers arrested Jacob Jay Thoms on a Pemiscot County warrant charging him with two counts of first degree child molestation, first degree statutory rape involving a person under 14 years of age and first degree attempted statutory rape involving a person under 14 years of age. ...

CARUTHERSVILLE - A 28-year old Caruthersville man is in custody on charges of child molestation and statutory rape.

At 3:28 p.m. Friday, Caruthersville Police officers arrested Jacob Jay Thoms on a Pemiscot County warrant charging him with two counts of first degree child molestation, first degree statutory rape involving a person under 14 years of age and first degree attempted statutory rape involving a person under 14 years of age. Thoms' arrest followed a two-month investigation into the charges, according to Caruthersville Police Chief Chris Riggs.

He is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail. Bond is set at $300,000.

Two persons face drug charges following their arrest Sunday.

At 2:15 a.m. Caruthersville police officers observed two men walking in the area of 12th and Vest streets. When asked to identify themselves, an officer observed one of the men throwing something to the ground. The item, a small bag of marijuana, was recovered.

Officers arrested Joseph Wright, 26, of Caruthersville on charges of possession of marijuana, willfully opposing a police officer and public intoxication. He is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail in lieu of a $1,500 cash only bond.

As officers attempted to place handcuffs on the second man, he attempted to run but was subdued with the use of a Taser. As the officers helped the man to his feet, a small bag containing crack cocaine fell from his pants.

Billy Griffin, 27, of Caruthersville is being held in the Pemiscot County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. Bond is set at $50,000.
