JACKSON -- The Sikeston Bulldog eighth and ninth grade teams split with Jackson's junior high teams on Monday night.

Sikeston's eighth graders won 33-31 against Jackson while the Bulldog freshmen dropped a 37-35 game in overtime.

In the eighth grade game, Sikeston trailed 12-9 after one quarter, but turned it around to lead 21-14 by halftime after out-scoring Jackson 12-2.

Jackson ended up leading 26-25 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sikeston was led by Eli Jackson's 17 points. Dwayne Harris followed up with 10 points.

"We played well enough to win at the end," said Sikeston coach Kevin Self. "The crowd was really loud and I just don't think our kids handled it very well. We had a hard time getting in our offense. We didn't play up to our potential like I thought we would."

In the freshman game, Sikeston led 17-15 at the half and 23-22 heading into the fourth quarter.

Sikeston's Dominic Fondon made 1-of-2 free throws to tie the game at 33

-33 with 2.8 seconds remaining to force overtime. But Sikeston couldn't pull it out in the extra period.

Fondon led the team with 15 points.

Richard Andrews followed up with nine points. Pridemore led Jackson with 14 points.

Sikeston's eighth and ninth grade will take on Poplar Bluff on the road on Thursday at 6 p.m.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

PERRYVILLE - The Oran Lady Eagles basketball team ran into a good Perryville Lady Pirates team, that defeated the Lady Eagles 53-34 on their home court.

Oran shot themselves in the foot as they only hit on three of 15 attempts from the free throw line.

"We missed way too many free throws tonight," said Oran head coach Larry Boshell.

"Perryville is a good team, but we had a four minute stretch in the second half where we could not hold on to the ball. We just let them have too many chances to beat us with our turnovers and the missed free throws."

Oran jumped on top of Perryville early as they led 13-9 after one quarter of action.

However, the Lady Pirates stormed back and outscored Oran 19-11 in the second quarter to take a 28-24 lead into halftime.

Perryville took control in the third period as they outscored the Lady Eagles by 12 and cruised in for the 53-34 victory over Oran.

Tiffany Glastetter led Oran in scoring with 17 and Wendy Eftink was second with 6 points.

For Perryville, Hacker led the team with 17 with Bachmann and Miesner scoring 12 points each.

The Lady Eagles (1-1) will face the Scott County Central Bravettes on Monday in the first round of the Chaffee girls tournament.
