HOWARDVILLE -- Henry R. Hopson Duncan, 80, died Feb. 4, 2006, at his home.

Born July 13, 1925, in New Albany, Miss., son of the late Andrew and Ora Robinson Duncan, he was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army. He also sang in a quartet for years.

In 1967, at New Madrid, he married Mary Louise Whitfield who survives of the home.

In addition to his wife, survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Edmonia P. and Henry Jackson of St. Louis and Sandra and Michael Gillespie of Bloomington, Ill.; six sons and four daughters-in-law, Willie and Leslie Duncan and Richard and Donna Hopson of St. Louis, Walter Grant of Chicago, Al Porter of Maryland, Aaron and Thelma Porter of Denver, Colo., Patrick Duncan of New Madrid and Walter and Mary Whitfield of Apple Valley, Minn.; and 21 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, John Porter; three brothers; and two sisters.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Richards Funeral Home Inc. in New Madrid, where services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Charles K. Burton Jr. will officiate.

Burial will follow in Sandhill Cemetery at New Madrid.
