CHARLESTON - Leona Chappell Thompson, 88, died at 11:24 a.m. Nov. 28, 2005, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
Born May 31, 1917, in Marion, Ky., daughter of the late George and Anne Long Watson, she had lived most of her life in Charleston, where she was employed for 30 years in the Bottoming Department of the Brown Shoe Company until her retirement and was a member of the Southside Baptist Church.
In February 1934, she married Carl Chappell, who preceded her in death in February 1970. On Jan. 10, 1976, she married William H. "Bill" Thompson who preceded her in death April 21, 2002.
Two brothers and three sisters also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-laws, Joyce and Bob Rolwing and Shelby and Walter Welch, all of Charleston; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Carletta and Charlie Samons; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Lee and Rhonda Welch and Carl and Jessica Welch; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Dean Wallace, pastor of the Wyatt Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Lee Welch, Carl Welch, Bruce Chapman II, Christopher Chapman, Branston Branam and Cole Branam.
