BERNIE -- A Bloomfield man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Sunday morning after his tractor-trailer unit was struck by a train in Stoddard County.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 9:20 a.m., at highways 25 and D, as eastbound motorist Gary G. Ross, 39, of Bloomfield failed to yield his tractor-trailer to the northbound train operated by Arvester Brown, 56, of Memphis, Tenn.
Ross was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:02 a.m. by Stoddard County coroner Morgan Sifford and was transported to Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter.
Brown was reportedly uninjured.
In addition to the Patrol, responding to the scene were members of the Dexter Police Department, Dexter Fire Department, Bernie Police Department, Bernie Fire Department, Stoddard County Sheriff's Department and Missouri Department of Transportation.
