NEW MADRID - Ordinances for mutual fire protection, authorization to seek block grant funds and purchase of a new car for the city administrator, were addressed by the City Council Tuesday.

SIKESTON - The City Council agreed to continue to fight the problems of property deterioration and sewer system maintenance by awarding contracts of more than $154,000 during a special meeting.

NEW MADRID - DeRay Ivie, a student of Pil Sung Martial Art Institute in New Madrid, competed in the U.S.A. Karate Masters National Feb. 7 in Memphis, Tenn. Ivie defeated a national champion in form competition for a first place win in his division (purple belt) and took first place in the point fighting competition. Martial artists from all over the United States participated in the nationally rated event.
