CHARLESTON -- Rufus Miller, 77, formerly of Denver, died Feb. 14, 2008, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Dec. 21, 1930, in Wardell, to the late Lem and Minnie White Miller, he was a member of the U.S. Army for over 23 years, retiring with an honorable discharge. He moved to Denver where he received a bachelor of science degree in liberal arts. He became a professional chef and worked for five of Denver's largest hotels. He later joined the Federal Police Force and worked with the Denver Mint, retiring after five years.

On Dec. 22, 1955, in Collinsville, Ill., he married Shirley Merrifield who preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 1997.

Survivors include: five daughters, Carolyn Eberhart and Darlene Miller of Peoria, Ariz., Marlene Miller of Amarillo, Texas, Randye Summers of Denver and Roxanne Thornton of Ogden, Utah; one sister, Sarah Akins of Charleston; and 11 grandchildren.

Services were held Sunday at the Williams Funeral Home in Charleston.
