POPLAR BLUFF -- Sylvia Violet Seib, 93, died Aug. 29, 2006, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
Born July 4, 1913, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of the late John and Mary "Mae" Hopper Caraker, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Poplar Bluff. In 1940, she and her husband moved to Charleston where they owned and operated the Super Cut Rate Drug Store until 1958 when the family moved to Poplar Bluff, where she worked as a licensed practical nurse for a while at the VA Hospital and for over 20 years at Lucy Lee Hospital.
On Oct. 10, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, she married Austin Henry Seib, who preceded her in death on Jan. 25, 1982.
Two daughters, Judy Schultz and Janet Thies; and one son, Joe Seib, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Sue Beis and Rose Mary Scobey of Poplar Bluff; two sons, Richard Seib of Dallas, Texas, and Chris Seib of St. Louis; one sister, Geraldine Schlosser of Sikeston; one brother, Charles Caraker of Pana, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Pat Seib of Poplar Bluff; a son-in-law, Bill Thies of Poplar Bluff; and 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Monsignor Michael Swalina officiating.
Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery.
