CHARLESTON -- An inmate at the Southeast Correctional Center has died. At 1:25 a.m. Friday, Charles Holmes, 49, an offender confined at the maximum- security state prison, was pronounced dead at the prison as a result of apparent natural causes. At 1:25 a.m. Friday, Charles Holmes, 49, an offender confined at the maximum-

security state prison, was pronounced dead at the prison as a result of apparent natural causes.

Holmes was received by the Missouri Department of Corrections on June 25, 1979, and was serving a 45-year sentence for rape, assault with intent to rape with malice and first degree robbery charges from Jackson County and a first-

degree assault charge from Cole County.

This is the first inmate death of the year for the 1,596-bed facility.
