SIKESTON - The Sikeston City Council Wednesday morning approved an ordinance establishing the tax rate for fiscal year 1987-88. The action was taken following a public hearing Wednesday. There is no change from the tax rate of fiscal year 1986-87.
SIKESTON - Local efforts in Operation Weed and Seed will be highlighted in this week's National Weed and Seed Convention in St. Louis, as representatives share their experience with those from around the nation. Attorney General Janet Reno is expected to attend during the week-long gathering.

JEFFERSON CITY - Election results for the Missouri Corn Merchandising Council (MCMC) were recently announced by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. Dale Conner of Essex was elected to his first three-year term for District 7. He was also named the treasurer of the 1997-98 MCMC Board of Directors. In addition, Randy Jennings of Bernie was named vice president of the Missouri Corn Growers Association Board of Directors at the same meeting. Both will take office on Oct. 1.

SIKESTON - A co-captain on last year's Sikeston soccer team, Senior Andrew Lawson hopes to make history in the 1977 season, setting a new record for most goals scored. Currently, he is only six goals behind, and the season hasn't even started yet.
