SIKESTON - A caricature of Dr. Sam Harbin, which will be featured at tonight's Third Annual Big Brother/Big Sister Roast of Harbin, has been released. The roast is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Ramada Inn of Sikeston. Daniel S. Norton will serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Roasters will be Rick Adams, Bob Buchanan, Harold Jones, Scott Matthews, Dr. Bill Stacy and Dennis Ziegenhorn. A dance will follow.

NEW MADRID - Furg Hunter was honored Tuesday evening during the annual meeting of the New Madrid County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was named Conservationist of the Year for New Madrid County and presented with an engraved plaque by Bill David LaValle, chairman of the district. During his 60 years of farming, Furg Hunter worked by one rule: "This land will treat you right, if you treat it right."

SIKESTON - Although they have their disagreements about the correct way to do certain things when it comes to repairing cars, Joe Cecil and his teacher, Mark Asmus, have to admit they make a pretty good team. The 18-year-old Dexter High School student is a recent local winner of the Tools for Tomorrow All-American Vocational Student Awards program. He will receive a $100 U.S. savings bond.
