SIKESTON -- George Elliott Mannon, 86, died at 2:32 p.m. Dec. 5, 2006, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Born Oct. 3, 1920, in Orange, Texas, son of the late John and Rosa Lee Cuthbertson Mannon, he was a cook at Lambert's Cafe before his retirement.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he had been a part of the D-Day Invasion and five other major battles including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Henry Meldrum Post 114 of the American Legion and the Eagles Aerie 3319 in Sikeston.

One brother, two sisters and one nephew also preceded him in death.

He is survived by two nephews, Daniel Marshall of Sikeston and Johnny Marshall Jr. of Paducah, Ky.

A private family service will be scheduled at a later date. Nunnelee Funeral Chapel of Sikeston is in charge of arrangements.
