SIKESTON -- A Sikeston teenager was killed in a head-on traffic accident Friday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, the accident occurred at approximately 3:12 p.m. on U.S. Highway 61, three miles south of Sikeston, when the northbound vehicle driven by Bradley D. Colbert, 17, of Sikeston, crossed the centerline and struck the southbound vehicle driven by Jessie S. Jackson, 69, of East Prairie, head on.
Colbert, a student at New Madrid County Central High School and starting center on the football team, was pronounced dead at the scene at 4 p.m. by New Madrid County Coroner Jimmy McSpadden.
Jackson was taken by air ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau for moderate injuries.
A passenger in Jackson's vehicle, Mary D. Jackson, 68, of East Prairie, also received moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center.
Colbert was taken to Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston.
