SIKESTON - Shelton Rhodes of Sikeston will be the new Farm Bureau Insurance agent for Sikeston. He will replace Bill Brown. Rhodes has been an agent in New Madrid County for the past 12 years and will continue as agent there and will be assisted by his son, Bill Rhodes.
MOREHOUSE - Two bond issues were defeated in Tuesday's special elections, according to unofficial totals reported by the office of New Madrid County Clerk Jim W. Farrenburg. Once again, voters in Morehouse narrowly failed to approve a proposal to issue general obligation bonds totaling $10,000 for the purchase of improving the wastewater treatment plant in the community. In Parma there were 75 persons opposing and 41 persons in favor of issuing general obligation bonds in the amount of $60,000 for the purpose of extending and improving the sewage system of the combined waterworks and sewage system.

ORAN - Residents in the Scott County R-3 School District voting in a special election Tuesday approved a 50-cent tax increase by a vote of 179 to 111. A simple majority was needed for passage.
NEW MADRID - The Delta Queen Steamboat will dock from 8 a.m. to noon Wednesday, the first stop on a Memphis to St. Louis cruise. During this time the levee will be closed to traffic between Main and Capitol streets to allow shuttle buses to the levee and for pedestrian safety. Parking will be available on Water Street. Passengers will be offered shuttle service to the New Madrid Historical Museum, Hunter-Dawson State Historic Site and the downtown area.
