SIKESTON -- Here are the results from Saturday's Sikeston Drag Strip action.
Junior Dragster Class
1st Place - Z-Man Davis Cairo, IL DI - 7.69 ET - 7.789 MPH - 73.77 RT - .536
2nd Place - Jacob Davis Campbell, MO DI - 12.35 ET - 12.427 MPH - 51.20 RT - .857
Two junior diggers showed up Saturday, but that didn't mean that there wasn't a drive to win with these two. Z-Man Davis, who has won a good share of races at the Sikeston Drag Strip, took on Jacob Davis, who is following in the footsteps of his street racing dad, Kerry Davis, in a very good race Saturday night.
Trophy Class
1st Place - Chad Wheeler Jackson, MO DI - 9.30 ET - 9.341 MPH - 78.83 RT - .545
2nd Place - Kyle Allardin Bandana, KY DI - 11.59 ET - 11.531 MPH - 60.63 RT - .692
As we rolled along in our program, we came to the Trophy Class final, which featured a new up-and-comer, Chad Wheeler, against the seasoned Trophy Class veteran, Kyle Allardin.
Both drivers were attacking the tree with a wreckless abandon during the elmination rounds, which led to this final round matchup. Kyle got the spot by over 2 seconds. When Chad's lights came down, he was able to better Kyle's reaction time and began to catch Kyle. At the far end, it looked as if Kyle was ahead and going to take the win, however, Kyle broke out, giving Chad the Trophy Class victory. Congratulations to Chad Wheeler.
ET Class
1st Place - Larry Layton Dexter, MO DI - 8.02 ET - 8.067 MPH - 85.66 RT - .510
2nd Place - Ronnie Overstreet Hard Money, KY DI - 7.96 ET - 7.952 MPH - 87.02 RT - .614
For the fourth week in a row, Ronnie Overstreet has raced his way into the finals in the ET Class. With this recent surge, Ronnie has drove into second place in the points. Who is first you may ask? None other than Ronnie's opponent, Larry Layton.
Larry raced out to a quick lead in the ET Points, and hasn't looked back since. With this race, Ronnie could pull even closer to taking over the points, thanks to his recent hot streak. At the starting line, this race was almost heads up, with only .06 of a second different.
Larry left first with a pushing-perfect .510 light, bettering Ronnie by over a tenth of a second. This race was almost over at the finish line it seemed. At the far end, Larry was able to take the win, while Ronnie broke out by .008 of a second. This pushed Larry's points lead up to 7 points over Ronnie. This will make for a great points race to close out the season. Congratulations to Larry Layton on his ET Class victory.
Pro Class
1st Place -David Leonard Scott City, MO DI - 6.94 ET - 6.970 MPH - 92.74 RT - .509
2nd Place - Mark Tesson Fredericktown, MO DI - 6.30 ET - 6.284 MPH - 109.72 RT - .635
Moving along in our program, we came to the Pro Class final, which featured the man sitting way atop the Pro Class points, David Leonard, and Mark Tesson, who is right in the thick of things in the points as our season is winding down.
Both drivers have proved this year that they are capable of taking home a win on any given night, which helps show why they are sitting in the upper end of the points for their class.
Super Pro Class
1st Place - Joe Davis Murphysboro, IL DI - 5.73 ET - 5.742 MPH - 119.64 RT - .518
2nd Place - Ed Maronay Wappapello MO DI - 6.75 ET - 6.758 MPH - 100.87 RT - .488
The final race of the night featured a pair of seasoned veterans in our Super Pro class in the form of Joe Davis and Ed Maronay. Both drivers have had a fair deal of success at the Sikeston Drag Strip and proved that experience can win you a race at any given time.
Ed left first with just at a second of spot. However, when his car launched it went too soon, going red by just a few thousandths of a second to give Joe the win.
Both cars ran close to their times, with Ed running on and Joe just a bit over. But that doesn't change a red light, and Joe was able to take the victory. Just like Ricky Bobby, he went fast. Congratulations to Joe Davis on his Super Pro Class victory.
Thanks to all that came out to race and watch at the Sikeston Drag Strip. Don't forget, Test n Tune is now on Friday nights from 6pm until 10 p.m. Also, you can still sign up for the points race at the ticket booth on the pit side.
