CHAFFEE -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs made quick work of the Chaffee Lady Red Devils in a SEMO Conference volleyball match on Thursday.

Sikeston (14-7) swept Chaffee 25-9, 25-12 to improve to 4-1 in the conference.

The Bulldogs, a third seed, point towards the conference tournament which opens on Thursday.

"We only have a week until the conference tournament starts, so we want to be ready to go for that," said Sikeston coach Steve Beydler.

Scoring in bunches, the Bulldogs rode Caitlin Underwood's six-point service run to open a decisive 19-7 lead in game one then cruised to victory.

Emily Taylor had five service points, Quinn Kaiser and Rachel Beydler three each. Martika Davis controlled the net with five kills, including a resounding slam for the game's final point, and Kaiser added three kills.

Chaffee scored two successive points just twice during the match.

Game two was more of the same as the Bulldogs wiped out an early 4-3 Chaffee lead on Davis' five service points, including two aces, to jump to an 8-4 advantage.

With the score favoring Sikeston at 13-6, Kiarra Morris' held service for six points, also including two aces, to run the score to 19-6.

Chaffee then had its largest single-possession point production of the night with five points to pull to 19-11.

"I'm pleased with the way we're playing," said Beydler. "(In) a match like tonight, you've got to make sure that you stay focused. I think there was only one stretch where they scored more than one point in a row."

Sikeston outscored the Red Devils 6-1 to close out the match.

"No matter how easy or how hard we think the competition is, we must come out every night ready to play our best game," said Beydler. "I think we did that tonight."

On the evening, Davis topped the kill stats with nine while Kaiser and Underwood had six and five, respectively. Morris led in digs with six, Beydler had five and libero Jennifer Millington four. Beydler set 20 assists.

No junior varsity game was scheduled.

Sikeston hosts Notre Dame on Wednesday in varsity and junior varsity action.
