SIKESTON -- Rene Spohn of Westfield, Ind., and David Kimes of Modesto, Calif., have announced the engagement of their daughter, Brandy Lynn Kimes, to James "Jamie" Riley, son of Diana and David Thomure of New Madrid and Michael and Sue Riley of Sikeston.

The future bride is enrolled as a full-time student at Indiana University/

Purdue University in Indianapolis while studying anthropology in the Indiana University School of Liberal Arts. She is the granddaughter of Elaine Hager and Donna Kimes of Richmond, Calif., and the late David Koenig and Melvin Kimes. She is the great-granddaughter of Gertrude Koenig of Richmond.

A graduate of New Madrid County Central High School, the prospective bridegroom is a 2002 graduate of University of Mississippi/Ole Miss, where he earned a degree in political science. He is employed by Union Pacific in Chicago. His grandparents are Dorothy Morris of Sikeston, Claud Thomure of East Prairie and the late James Vernon Morris, Burse Lea Thomure and Martha and L.L. (Pud) Riley.

Plans are being finalized for a beachfront wedding June 24 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. A local wedding reception will be held Aug. 5 in New Madrid.
