2nd Place - Jake Overstreet LaCenter, KY DI - 11.83 ET -11.822 MPH - 60.79 RT - .594
In the Trophy Class Saturday night, we saw a battle of the Titans in the final of the class. Mike Brown, often called "Redlight Mike" by his racing peers, was out with a vengeance to shake himself of that nickname.
Standing in his way, however, was one of the toughest drivers at the track, whether he's in the family Pooh Bear car, or in any other vehicle, Jake Overstreet.
These two have met several times over the course of the year, now this one was for bragging rights. Jake had a spot by almost 3 seconds and cut a good light. Mike launched hard and was able to better Jake off the line. Jake seemed to have enough of a lead, even though his light was better, to take the win. But the far end decided it, as Jake broke out by a slim margin, giving the win to Mike Brown. Congratulations to Mike Brown on his Trophy Class victory.
ET Class
1st Place - Don Bryant Imperial, MO DI - 7.69 ET - 9.669 MPH - 48.90 RT - .527
2nd Place - Dave Slayden Diehlstadt, MO DI - 7.50 ET - 9.844 MPH - 32.55 RT - .495
With the Points season officially over, the racing from here on out is for getting everything ready for next year and bragging rights. With that said, Dave Slayden showed that maybe next year will be his year with a strong performance in the ET Class.
Pro Class
1st Place -Jordan McManus Symsonia, KY DI - 6.23 ET - 6.218 MPH - 112.02 RT - .495
2nd Place - Ronnie Overstreet Hard Money, KY DI - 7.78 ET - 11.403 MPH - 25.64 RT - .472
The Pro Class final featured a couple of hard driving Kentucky racers. Ronnie Overstreet wrapped up the season on a tear as he raced into finals for over a month straight. His opponent was Jordan McManus, a former Junior Dragster driver, who has had a great deal of success at the Sikeston Drag Strip this season. This was shaping up to be a tough final.
Ronnie got the spot by just over a second-and-a-half. However, he launched too soon, going red before the race was able to get going. Jordan saw the red, but drove his car out, breaking out, but still able to take the win due to Ronnie's first red light. Congratulations to Jordan McManus on his Pro Class victory.
Super Pro Class
1st Place - Eric Parris Dexter, MO DI - 5.08 ET - 5.086 MPH - 136.44 RT - .507
2nd Place - Royce Thomason Malden, MO DI - 6.05 ET - 6.060 MPH - 112.83 RT - .534
The last race of the night pitted the seasoned veteran, Royce Thomason, against the always tough Eric Parris. Royce won the Super Pro points several years ago and is almost always in the top 12 at the end of the season. Eric, in his first full year in a car, finished in the top 5 last year and was once again in the top 12 this season.
Sunday, Oct. 1 Points Bonus Bucks Race
On Sunday, we had our annual Bonus Points Race, which gives the top 12 racers in each class the chance to race for some extra bonus bucks for their work in their classes this year.
ET Class
1st Place - Dave Slayden Diehlstadt, MO DI - 7.59 ET - 7.609 MPH - 90.19 RT - .528
2nd Place - Tommy Nolen East Prairie, MO DI - 7.02 ET - 7.036 MPH - 98.44 RT - .610
The first final of the Bonus Bucks race featured Dave Slayden, coming off his second place finish on Saturday night, against the always tough Tommy Nolen, who was able to get his truck lined out and ready to race on Sunday. Dave got the spot by just over a half-second and was able to use that to his advantage by cutting a good light, bettering Tommy.
Pro Class
1st Place -John Daniels Dexter, MO DI - 6.43 ET - 6.432 MPH - 102.76 RT - .537
2nd Place - Dennis Harty Dudley, MO DI - 6.26 ET - 6.257 MPH - 108.72 RT - .570
The final in the Pro Class pitted our second place man, Dennis Harty, against John Daniels, a dangerous driver who is capable of taking a win any given race day.
Super Pro Class
1st Place - Cecil Whitaker Dexter, MO DI - 5.22 ET - 5.214 MPH - 113.61 RT - .497
2nd Place - Mark Murakami Cape Girardeau, MO DI - 6.13 ET - 6.129 MPH - 112.24 RT - .499
The final pair of the Bonus Bucks race featured two tough drivers, former track champion Mark Murakami, and Cecil Whitaker, who has been on a tear winning several races, including a big bucks race earlier this season. This race was for all the money, as both drivers were anxious to show that they were the best this day.
Mark got the spot by almost a second and left first. Then...as he launched he went red by .001! That's less than the blink of an eye! Cecil left, even going red, but taking the win due to Mark going red first. Both cars broke out during the process of their run.
This would have been a very close race. However, with the red lights and all, Cecil takes the win and the Bonus Bucks check. Congratulations to Cecil Whitaker.
Thanks to all that came out to race and watch at the Sikeston Drag Strip. Don't forget, Test n Tune is now on Friday nights from 6pm until 10 p.m. with $2000 to win in Super Pro and $2000 to win in Pro this Saturday, October 7th! Congratulations to all of our winners from this week and we hope to see you all next week at the Sikeston Drag Strip.
