CARUTHERSVILLE - A teen is in custody in connection with a armed robbery early Sunday.

A 1:08 a.m. Sunday, the Caruthersville Police Department received a 911 call from the night manager of the Sonic reporting he was robbed at gunpoint.

Responding to the scene, officers met the night manager, who told them he was leaving the business after closing when he was approached by a male. The man showed a handgun and demanded the money.

The manager said he gave the man the night deposit bag then watched as the suspect fled on foot through a field. No shots were fired and the manager was not harmed.

A search began by police officers and Pemiscot County deputies.

A phone tip led officers to Jiffy Jims Convenience Store, where a possible suspect matching the description was attempting to use a pay phone.

Officers took a 16-year-old into custody who was identified by the victim as the assailant. He was sent to detention on charges of armed robbery.

Authorities said they are continuing their investigation into the incident.
