SIKESTON - J.M. "Jimmy" Law of Sikeston is announcing his candidacy for the Democratic nomination of the office of recorder of deeds of Scott County.
SIKESTON - Twenty area bankers are due in Sikeston for a meeting tomorrow night that could well "shape the area's agricultural future," according to Jim Musick, manager of the Chamber of Commerce. The main topic of discussion will be the local livestock raising, feeding and financing.

SIKESTON - Balloting for the "Friendly, Most Courteous" contest is beginning to pick up. A landslide of ballots flowed into the Daily Standard office Saturday and today, throwing the tabulators behind. More than 100 persons have been entered into the contest.
SIKESTON - The 1985-86 Composite Achievement Test score results were presented to the Sikeston R-6 Board of Education Tuesday. All classes scored above the national average. The kindergarten score is 63 and lower elementary scores reportedly are higher.

SIKESTON - As the halfway point of the Sikeston Little League season draws near, two undefeated teams remain in the Musial League. Welsh-Ponder remained unbeaten with an 8-2 win over Rotary Wednesday and Flower Basket kept pace with an 11-1 victory over Jarvis.
SIKESTON - Sikeston Public School teachers will see a change in their paychecks when school resumes in the fall. The Board of Education voted Tuesday afternoon to give the 500 SPS employees an average 5 percent salary increase for the 1996-97 school year.
