SIKESTON - Don Moore was honored with a trophy for compiling the highest score during the Bowl for Kids Sake Celebrity Day Aug. 23 at the Imperial Lanes Bowling Alley. He received his trophy Thursday night for bowling a 232 game during the 10 a.m. shift of the event. Receiving the second highest score was Deveda Hamra with a 222 game during the 2 p.m. shift. Third place was Danny Bridger.

CHARLESTON - Getting the Dorena Ferry across the mile stretch of water from Dorena to Hickman, Ky., is taking longer than anticipated. Ferry boat captain Larry Claghorn was present Thursday at the Mississippi County Commission to finalize some prices for taking the mile trip from Missouri to Kentucky. "I want everything in writing with no surprises to the passengers or myself. Everything has to be above board," said Claghorn. "I want you (the commission) to establish a price list for those wanting to take the ferry," he added.

NEW MADRID - New Madrid County R-1 School District has been awarded a fully "accredited" rating from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This rating, the state's highest, is the result of the district's participation in the Missouri School Improvement Program review.
