SIKESTON - Keith Collins, head of the music department at the high school, announced that he has 52 in his band this year.

40 years ago

SIKESTON - M.J. Snider, chief engineer for the state highway department in Jefferson City, geared a speech toward highway and bridge prospects in Southeast Missouri Thursday night. The occasion was a meeting for the Chamber of Commerce and the Southeast Missouri Chapter of the Society of Professional Engineers. About 150 people attended.


SIKESTON - The Community Action Agency Thursday night voted to submit a youth recreation project to the Scott County office of the Economic Opportunity board.

Oct. 6, 1986

SIKESTON - Monday night the Sikeston City Council amended a bond and insurance ordinance, acted on a rental agreement for the Tanner Street gym and endorsed two amendments that will appear on the Nov. 4 ballot.


SIKESTON - The Sikeston Community Teachers Association conducted its second annual walk for the United Way Monday. The mile walk started at the high school and ended at the Buckner-Ragsdale Clothing Store.

MOREHOUSE - Celebrating its centennial, the city of Morehouse held a parade and fed more than 800 residents and former residents Saturday. Those watching the parade, which was held downtown, got to see marching bands and floats honoring the city.


SPRINGFIELD - The New Madrid County Central Eagles fell short again when they played Springfield Catholic Saturday, 35-18. This time, one unfortunate play did not prevent the Eagles from gaining a victory. Instead Springfield's star receiver doomed the Eagles by catching four passes for 212 yards and three touchdowns.
