CARUTHERSVILLE - A 13-year-old skateboarder was injured when he skated into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

At about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Caruthersville police officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit by a car at the intersection of 12th and Grand streets.

According to Caruthersville City Marshal Chris Riggs, the vehicle left the scene but was located minutes later by officers.

The driver, Matthew Nelson, 18, of Caruthersville, told police he was attempting to pass the teen who was skateboarding in the roadway. The driver said the teen skated into the path of the vehicle and was struck.

The teen was transported by a family member to the hospital where he was treated for minor injuries.
