DEXTER -- Elmer Allen Swallows, 87, died Sept. 19, 2008, at the Missouri Southern Health Care in Dexter.
Born April 1, 1921, in Stoddard County, to the late Charlie A. and Lula Ruth Swan Swallows, he had lived in the Dexter and Essex areas his entire life. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II.
On Aug. 16, 1947, in Piggott, Ark., he married Myrtle Slaughter, who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Allen Swallows and Dean Swallows of Dexter; one sister, Florence Sanders of Dexter; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Anderson Swallows and Charles Swallows.
Visitation is at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield with full military honors provided by the Kennedy-Hanks American Legion of Dexter.
