Local man injured in motorcycle accident

SIKESTON -- A Sikeston man was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident Tuesday night just north of town.

According to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, the incident occurred around 6:22 p.m. on Highway 61 near the Highway HH intersection. A southbound motorcycle driven by Stanley Abernathy of Sikeston, collided with a vehicle turning into the Southeast Missouri State University-Sikeston campus, leaving the Abernathy with serious injuries to his leg. He was transported by air helicopter to a Cape Girardeau hospital for treatment.
