Alice Fisher
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Alice Marlin Fisher, 80, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2008, in Scottsdale.
She was born on Jan. 17, 1928, in Naylor, Mo., to the late John Marshall Marlin and Nora Mohan Marlin.
On July 29, 1951, she married Paul Gordon Fisher; he preceded her in death on March 3, 2003.
Mrs. Fisher was a prominent resident of Sikeston, Mo., most of her life and was engaged in farming with her husband and also worked as a volunteer with the Missouri Cotton Boll Girl Scouts for many years. She was a charter member of the Bootheel Quilters Guild, which she initially helped organize in 1989.
She was also a member of the American Quilters Society and the National Quilters Society. Her passion and love for quilts, fabric and quilt patterns was an important role in her life. She attended quilt shows often and collected quilt patterns from early 1920s forward to complete a rare set of over 1,000 patterns published by Kansas City Star and other newspapers.
She was also a professional seamstress and tailor; she made clothing for herself and children. She was a lady that enjoyed sharing her knowledge and patterns with others. She visited various extension clubs to discuss her passion for collecting quilts and patterns.
Survivors include: two sons, Mark Marlin Fisher of Colombia, Ill., and Paul Fisher of Jackson, Mo.; two daughters, Ellen Fisher Baker of Scottsdale and Alice Caroline Fisher of Columbia, Mo.; one sister, Edith Leeper of Columbia; one brother, Charles Lowell Marlin of Knox, Penn.; and two grandchildren: David Baker of Long Island, N.Y. and Anna Margaret Hoge of Murfreesboro, Tenn.
One daughter, Marsha Ann Hoge, as well as three siblings, Dorothy Marlin Johnson, Lewis Marlin and John Marshal Marlin Jr., preceded her in death.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at Ponder Funeral Home where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. the following day.
Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
