As we wrap up the year here in Downtown Sikeston, we can only look forward to 2009. Many things were accomplished in 2008 and everyone involved with the revitalization efforts can be extremely proud of the progress made this year.

Although I've only been here about four months, I feel like a lot has been accomplished in that short time.

Our MoDOT Enhancement project is now nearing completion -- even with the delays with our streetlights, which I have been assured will be installed in the next few weeks. The sidewalks and other improvements are looking good and holding up to the brisk weather.

We have made tremendous progress this year in our DREAM Initiative. Aside from the many reports which help us get a better understanding on the status of our Downtown's progress and potentials, we have seen the possible look of Downtown Sikeston in the years to come through our streetscape plans.

Our promotions committee has hosted many successful events this year and would like to thank all of the volunteers, vendors, and especially everyone who came out to enjoy them. Look for all of these events to return next year and if you have ideas for future events or would like to get involved, please let us know by calling 573-380-3801.

For more information on 2009's events, check out the Web site at www.downtownsikeston.com.

All of us here in Downtown Sikeston hope you had an enjoyable Holiday Season and wish you all the best for the New Year.

Consider a New Year's resolution to attend a few HMDG meetings this year -- we meet at 8 a.m. the first Thursday of each month at Susie's Bake Shoppe. We'd love to hear from you.
