Board of Municipal Utilities employees work to repair a power outage Wednesday morning that reminded many Sikeston residents of a year ago. Fortunately, this time the power was out less than 50 minutes and no ice was involved. According to Ed Throop, BMU director, the outage occurred at 9 a.m. at the SWPA substation at the Power Plant as equipment was being installed. Currently BMU is working on electrical needs as part of the effort to replace the transformer which was ruined in 2009 during an explosion and fire at the Coleman Substation. Throop said this should be completed in the next several days.
