At 1:03 p.m. Thursday, the Miner Fire Department responded to a 911 call reporting a structure fire at a vacant house at 114 Dale St. Upon arriving, responders found the structure was fully involved. The fire apparently started "in the front area of the house," said Chief Jack Tucker of the Miner Fire Department. Also responding to assist were the Sikeston Department of Public Safety's fire division and the Morehouse Fire Department. Tucker said the assistance was needed as it was a very hot fire. "The heat drains everybody pretty quick," he said. Firefighters were able to keep a detached garage from becoming involved but the house was determined to be a total loss, Tucker said. The fire was extinguished at about 5 p.m. "I've got the fire marshal investigating it," Tucker said. "Something doesn't seem right about it."
