OCALA, Fla. -- The Sikeston 10-year-old All-Stars dropped their first game in pool play 13-2 to the host Ocala squad at the Cal Ripken 10U World Series on Friday night. Ocala wasted no time jumping on Sikeston, scoring four runs in the first inning off of Jarred Sandlin. Ocala added another run in the second and two more in the fourth, building a 6-0 lead before Sikeston could get on the board...

All-Stars unable to hold down Ocala bats in 13-2 loss

OCALA, Fla. -- The Sikeston 10-year-old All-Stars dropped their first game in pool play 13-2 to the host Ocala squad at the Cal Ripken 10U World Series on Friday night.

Ocala wasted no time jumping on Sikeston, scoring four runs in the first inning off of Jarred Sandlin. Ocala added another run in the second and two more in the fourth, building a 6-0 lead before Sikeston could get on the board.

Zachary Watkins led off the bottom of the third with a walk and advanced to second on a passed ball. After a strike out, Bryce Bays singled, scoring Watkins as Bays advanced to second on the throw. Bays advanced to third on a ground out and then scored on a Sandlin single to left.

Unfortunately for Sikeston that is all they would score as Ocala put the game away in the top of the fourth, plating six runs.

Sikeston was unable to score in the bottom of the fourth as the game ended with the mercy rule.

Sikeston collected four hits in the game with Bays, Sandlin, Will Pratt and Fred Thatch Jr. all singling.

Sandlin took the loss, giving up five runs, three earned on two hits and five walks while striking out two. Will Pratt was tagged with seven runs, five earned in 1 1/3 innings, allowing seven hits while striking out one. Thatch pitched the final 2/3 of an inning allowing one unearned run.

Sikeston will play again today at 2 p.m.
