SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs tennis team opened the 2010 season with a 7-2 loss to the always-tough Carbondale, Ill., Terriers on Tuesday afternoon.
"Even though we didn't come out with a win for the team, I felt we played well for the first match of the season," said Sikeston coach Russ Dial.
Sikeston got a win in singles from Kelsey Dial who defeated Roni Jo LeForse 8-5. Dial teamed up with Jacarra Lampkin in doubles to defeat Shan Shan Ge and Erica Borgsmiller 8-4.
Lampkin fell in singles to highly-touted Shanaz Domeshdoost 8-1.
"Jacarra Lampkin's opponent, their number one, is a USTA Juniors player and probably the best Jacarra has ever faced, so it will be a good experience for her.
"Kelsey Dial played a mentally tough match, coming from behind to win."
In junior varsity, Sikeston fell to Carbondale 4-2 with Kristin King winning her singles match 8-5 and teamed with Alana Ellis to win 8-5 in doubles.
"Kristin King played well on the junior varsity level in her first match ever," Dial said. "We did well against a tough team."
Sikeston will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to Poplar Bluff.
