HAYTI -- The Hayti Indians grabbed a two-touchdown lead in the first half and held on for a 14-12 win over East Prairie on Friday night.

Hayti got on the board early in the first quarter when senior Demonta Abbott broke free for a 75-yard run. Keenon Norris ran in the two-point conversion and Hayti led 8-0 with 8:54 left in the first quarter.

Abbott broke free for another big run in the second quarter, this time from 46 yards out and after the run failed, Hayti held a 14-0 lead.

The East Prairie defense would not give the Indians any more however, as the Eagles began mounting their comeback late in the third quarter.

Quarterback Dalton Golightly hit Mikey Russell for a 17-yard touchdown pass with 5:57 left in the third quarter and after the kick failed the Eagles trailed 14-6.

Russell then ran the ball in from two yards out with 5:32 remaining in the fourth quarter but the two-point conversion run to tie the game failed.

Abbott led all rushers with 189 yards on 22 carries. Zach Shipman led East Prairie with 52 yards on 18 carries.
