FESTUS -- Scott City sophomore Alexis Spriggs tossed a no-hitter against Jefferson High School on Wednesday as the Lady Rams rolled, 13-0, in their first round game of the Class 2, District 2 tournament.

Out of 16 batters, Spriggs struck out 10. An error allowed for her lone base runner on the day.

Stacey Heisserer led Scott City with three hits while Spriggs and Melanie Lacey added a double and triple respectively.

"It was a good game to open up districts with," Scott City head coach Amy Pobst said.

Scott City (14-10) will play Crystal City in the semifinals.

8th Grade Football

NMCC 28, Cape Central 8

NEW MADRID -- The New Madrid County Central eighth grade football team finished their season with a record of 4-1-1 after a 28-8 win over Cape Central earlier this week.

NMCC started the scoring with a 33 yard run by T.J. Clark and the conversion was no good.

Trailing 8-6, the Eagles went back on top for good when Drew Palmer ran in from three yards out and then tossed a two-point conversion pass to Brenton James to make the score 14-8.

NMCC scored again in the third quarter when T.J. Clark scored from two yards out and Vontre Jones added the two-point conversion, making the score 22-8.

Palmer added the final score for the Eagles on a one-yard quarterback sneak and the try failed.
