Seeds hold true at Lady Royals tourney
SHS defeats Portageville, NMCC wins in overtime
BROSELEY -- The Sikeston Lady Bulldogs wasted no time gaining an early advantage over the Portageville Lady Bulldogs during the first round of the Twin Rivers Lady Royals Christmas tournament on Saturday eventually winning 63-29.
After a 28-3 first quarter left little in doubt as Sikeston, the No. 7 seed, kept rolling in the first half giving them a 47-10 lead at halftime.
Tyangela Gibson led all scorers with 33 points. Taneshia Pulley and Asia Liggins added nine and eight points, respectively.
Sikeston is scheduled to play the No. 2 seed Kennett tonight at 7:30 p.m.

BROSELEY -- The closest seeds at No. 8 and No. 9 proved to be the closest game.
The New Madrid County Central Lady Eagles (No. 8) needed overtime to defeat the Kelly Lady Hawks, 60-55.
Playing to a 51-51 tie at the end of regulation, NMCC outscored the Lady Hawks 9-4 in the first overtime period to advance.
NMCC's Benesha Childress led all scorers with 20 points while Karen McGloson added 14.
Bridgette Chandler and Kayla Hicks paced Kelly with 19 and 13 points.
NMCC will play the No. 1 seed Neelyville today at 3 p.m. while Kelly falls to the consolation bracket and will play Clearwater on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

BROSELEY -- The Dexter Lady Bearcats continued to wear down the Greenville Lady Bears on Monday eventually taking a 62-41 victory.
Alison Jarrel led the Lady Bearcats with 21 points which included five 3-pointers.
Dexter will play the host team, Twin Rivers, today at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinal round.

BROSELEY -- Continuing to feel the loss of their standout, Kasuela Cooper, the Charleston Lady Bluejays fell to the Twin Rivers Lady Royals 72-48 in the first round of the Lady Royals Christmas tournament.
The Lady Bluejays were slowed out of the gate by a 25-7 first quarter from Twin Rivers. From then on it was too much for Charleston to overcome.
Eneikqua Ewing led the Lady Bluejays with 21 points. Jasmine Spence added 14.
Charleston moves to the consolation bracket and will play Greenville on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

BROSELEY -- Neelyville held on to their No. 1 seed defeating Clearwater 58-22.
No. 5 seed Naylor defeated Doniphan, the No. 12 seed, 62-55, the No. 4 seed Senath beat Malden 69-30 and the No. 2 seed Kennett rolled past No. 15 seed East Carter, 59-32.
