Sheriff fights for more funding

CHARLESTON -- After a lengthy discussion on two options presented to the sheriff during a well-attended public hearing, Mississippi County commissioners approved the county's operating budget for 2011.

The weekly County Commission meeting was held Monday as the meeting's usual date on Thursday would be after the state-mandated deadline for the approval of county budgets.
